Maudlin House is a lit site devoted to all things literature. We welcome flash, poetry, and fiction submissions by both emerging, and established authors. We admire transgressive, absurdist, and minimalist literature but Maudlin House also encourages you to create work that challenges the idea of what literature is. This publication is by writers, for writers. 

Together we can make something weird. 

As a fledgling publication we are not yet able to provide compensation for your work, only undying gratitude and admiration.

We do not believe in silent rejections, we respond to all submissions. We do our best to respond within about four weeks (often sooner), but please don’t query the moment that window passes. We promise we’re reading.

GUIDELINES:

• We accept flash fiction, short stories, and poetry. See categories below for specific guidelines.
• We cannot accept BIO updates. We understand that as an author your BIO is always changing, but we CANNOT commit the time to revise something every time you get published elsewhere. 
• We only accept submission-ready work. Please do not send drafts or pieces you plan to heavily revise. If it’s not ready to publish, it’s not ready to send. We have rolling submissions. This means we have a continuous open call for material. Please wait at least FOUR weeks after receiving a response before submitting again. This helps us give everyone’s work the time and attention it deserves.
• ONE submission at a time. Don’t send another piece while one is still under review. We’ll get to it.
•  24-Hour Response: For $5, you can get a response within 24 hours. This does not guarantee acceptance, just a faster reply. We still ask that you wait a few weeks between submissions to give everyone’s writing the attention it deserves.
• DO NOT PULL A BAIT AND SWITCH. If we accept your work, that is the version we want. Only minimal edits are allowed, and any changes must be requested at least a week before publication. We will not make edits directly in the document, so send an updated Doc file instead.
• No previously published material. This includes social networks and blogs.

We accept simultaneous submissions. We encourage them. We know that the odds are never in our favor as writers and hope that this evens the playing field a bit. We only ask you to
notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere. 

Maudlin House acquires first publication rights, but you, the writer, still own your work. What this means is that we hold the publication rights for 30 days after your piece has been published. After 30 days, you are free to publish and submit your work elsewhere. We kindly ask for acknowledgment in reprints of your work.
